Welcome aboard, An!

An is a Jacksonville University Alumna who started her journey with Volly in the summer of 2020. She is now a full time employee in the Marketing Team. We asked her to share about her experience at Volly. 

How did you start at Volly?

I was encouraged to apply to a summer internship at Volly by one of my business professors. I applied, sent my resume, went through the interview, and got a yes! I was nervous at first but the whole process was straight-forward. HR was incredibly helpful with helping me get all the paperwork needed for school credits.

How was your internship experience at Volly?

I worked at other places before, but Volly was the best internship experience I had. Honestly, there is nothing to complain about and everything you could ask for in an internship/ part-time job. I was a senior in college at the time, so life was hectic. However, my supervisor and coworkers were very understanding and encouraging. My supervisor Michael is a very good mentor to me (who also has a good sense of humor!), my coworker Michelle is super sweet, and everyone in the company is kind to me.

My internship was a good transitional bridge between the classroom environment and the working field. During my internship, I acquired new skills, improved my technical ability, and learned a lot professionally. Instead of being limited to a predefined “job description”, I was able to be creative and to explore beyond my role which were important to my professional improvements. The company also offers their employees online training courses and hours to attend industry webinars.

I happily accepted my full time offer after I graduated, my family and friends were very happy for me.

What is the most challenging aspect of working at Volly?

Like any job, you must work hard and be responsible. Moreover, it is a remote job (meaning you save time, gas, and have great flexibility), so self-discipline is incredibly important.  At Volly, the leaders talk a lot about work ethics and teamwork, and all the people I have worked with have respectable work ethics. As a young professional, it could be hard at times to be responsible and self-disciplined. The environment at Volly has been a positive challenge that helped me sharpen my skills and build my character.
